Legal Counsel (entry level)
Role Title
Legal Counsel (entry level), Cyclops EEC Services, GmbH
Company Description
Crypto and stablecoins will transform payments infrastructure. We are unifying the components that unlock that potential. Cyclops is the first infrastructure company solely dedicated to empowering payments companies to offer crypto and stablecoin solutions.
Cyclops EEC Services GmbH is our wholly owned Austrian entity, established to, after successful licensing, serve European markets and currently pursuing MiCAR and PSD2 licenses with the Austrian FMA (Finanzmarktaufsicht).
Role Overview
We are building a lean, high-caliber legal and compliance function in Vienna and are looking for a sharp, motivated Legal Counsel (entry level) who wants real responsibility, meaningful work, and direct exposure to some of the most dynamic areas of law and European regulation.
This is a hands-on, generalist in-house role at an early-stage regulated entity - meaning you will touch a wide range of legal matters from day one, with a particular emphasis on regulatory licensing and commercial contracts.
As Legal Counsel, you will be a full part of the Cyclops legal team, focusing on diverse legal cases arising within the Cyclops Group. You will be responsible for operational legal tasks and you will provide legal support for various projects, as well as the ongoing licensing process.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise, accompany and support the operational areas of Cyclops and other team members
- Provide legal input on new products, services, and business initiatives from an Austrian and EU regulatory perspective
- Legal support in all relevant fields of law and involvement in various national and international projects
- Draft and revise all types of legal documents like any type of contract, general terms and conditions, internal and external policies, data protection documentation, etc
- Evaluate the company’s legal status and maintain good compliance
- Communicate with law firms, cooperation partners and clients
- Support the legal and compliance teams on cross-border legal matters
- Support the company's MiCAR license application and PSD2 stablecoin authorization with the FMA, including document preparation, regulatory correspondence, and coordination with external Austrian counsel
- Collaborate with the AMLO and compliance function on legal aspects of AML/CFT/Sanctions policies, regulatory submissions, and internal procedures
- Assist with board and management resolutions and other corporate secretarial matters
- Assist with data protection (GDPR) compliance matters, including reviewing DPAs and supporting the company's privacy framework
Requirements
- A university degree in law at an Austrian university with a strong focus on civil law and corporate law, as well as other legal areas, especially data protection law and/or IT/IP law and/or supervisory law and/or labour law
- A minimum of 1 to 3 years of professional experience in an international law firm or experience as in-house legal counsel in an international company
- Experience at a law firm or in-house team advising on fintech, payments, e-money, or crypto regulation
- Familiarity with MiCAR, PSD2, or Austrian banking/payment services laws (ZaDiG 2018, BWG, or E-Geldgesetz)
- Exceptional drafting skills and attention to detail in both English and German
- A self-starter mindset: able to manage multiple assignments, prioritize independently, and communicate clearly about workload and timelines
- Comfort working in a fast-moving startup environment where processes are still being built and adaptability is essential
Why This Role
- Build something that matters: You will have genuine ownership over the legal framework of a new, well-funded entity — a blank canvas, not a bureaucratic inheritance
- Regulatory visibility: You will be a named officer with direct FMA relationships and a seat at the leadership table
- Growth trajectory: This role evolves from individual contributor to legal team lead as the business scales post-license
- Well-resourced: Cyclops is well-funded and committed to investing properly in our teams - you will have the budget, state-of-the-art tools, and external support to do the job right
We believe great people thrive when they’re empowered to do meaningful work. As a member of our Cyclops EEC Services GmbH team, you'll receive competitive compensation along with employment benefits in accordance with Austrian labor law, including paid vacation, public holidays, paid sick leave, and statutory social insurance. We also strive to create a flexible, collaborative environment where our team can do their best work.
This role will report to the Managing Director of Cyclops EEC Services GmbH (based in Vienna), with a strong dotted line to one of our co-founders, who is also the Group Chief Legal Officer (US-based).
For this position, the salary range lies between €38,000-€44,000 gross per year. Our final offer will depend on your skills and experience.Additional Benefits
- Company issued laptop
- $300 for Technology Accessories
- Annual In-Person Full-Team Meetup
Location
